Black Friday will come early to Sycamore this year as shops downtown will have special deals and merriment a week in advance.

The Moonlight Madness shopping event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday throughout downtown Sycamore. Rich Para, co-owner of Sweet Earth Jewelry, 341 W. State St. in Sycamore, said he was excited for the event and all its participants.

“All of the retail businesses are involved,” Para said. “The whole downtown is doing something.”

According to the Discover Sycamore website, www.discoversycamore.com, businesses will be featuring special moonlight deals that shouldn’t be missed.

The Sycamore School of Performing Arts, 504 N. Main St. in Sycamore, participates in the event every year and will be providing Christmas scenes in the windows of shops, according to the school’s artistic director, Jodi Riley.

“We are doing a snowflake scene and a Rockettes scene,” Riley said. “We will have dancers posing in storefront windows.”

Roseann Para, co-owner of Sweet Earth Jewelry, said she is excited to see what the dancers do this year.

“Last year they did the Nutcracker,” Roseann Para said. “Whatever it is, I’m sure it will be great!”

In the other window of Sweet Earth Jewelry, a local volunteer will be performing as Mrs. Claus, who will be reading in a rocking chair and may even do some puppeteering.

“Last year we had a nice turn out,” Roseann Para said. “A lot of people taking advantage of the sales; from in Sycamore and out of town.”
