Krempel, Ksiazek named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

This week’s recipients of the NIU Scholar-Athletes of the Week were football’s Matt Krempel and women’s soccer’s Courtney Ksiazek.
Krempel and the offensive line played a huge part in the Huskies’ 48-34 victory over Western Michigan. Krempel helped allow quarterback Jordan Lynch to throw for 274 yards and run for 136 on the ground.
Total, the Huskies had 453 yards of offense and they averaged 6.7 yards per play.
The junior offensive lineman also maintains a 3.587 GPA while majoring in health sciences.
Ksiazek played a large role in the Huskies’ game against Toledo on Thursday. She came off the bench and assisted Kayra Thompson on a goal that tied the game, 1-1.
NIU would go on to win the game against Toledo, qualifying for the MAC Conference Tournament.
In the game Sunday against the Chippewas, the junior defender helped keep the game scoreless till halftime. However, the Huskies fell to Central Michigan, 2-0.
This is the second time Ksiazek has earned this honor this season. She has a 3.328 GPA and majors in accounting.
