Looking for something more adventurous when going out to eat? DeKalb has several options to please your taste buds and introduce you to unusual yet delicious combinations.

The Huddle, 817 W. Lincoln Highway, offers an item on their menu called bubble tea. The bubble part comes from the tapioca pearls which are mixed into the smoothies. The tapioca pearls, which are popular in Asian cultures, have an hour preparation time before being used. These smoothies are made from all-natural ingredients. Owner Mohammed Labadi, also recommends the falafel wrap. The falafel is made in-house, and all of the items on The Huddle’s menu are made fresh and from scratch.

Next on the food journey is The Junction Eating Place, 816 W. Lincoln Highway. This summer, with a desire to expand its menu, The Junction introduced their crunchy Asian chicken wrap. This sandwich includes boneless chicken glazed in teriyaki sauce and sprinkled in red pepper flakes, romaine lettuce, shredded carrots, chow mein noodles and mandarin oranges. All of the ingredients are wrapped up in a large tortilla.

“We got feedback from customers to add to the menu,” said executive host Greg Bahramis. “We targeted customers on the run.”

The wrap as a whole has a bit of spice to it, but the teriyaki sauce and mandarin oranges add a tangy and sweet flavor, creating a delicious combination. Try the wrap with a cup of vegetable soup.

The next stop is Sunshine Scoop Shoppe, 818 W. Lincoln Highway. The ice cream parlor allows diners to get creative with “customer creations.”

Alumna Kelly Smith shared her banana split with me, and it was far from an ordinary sundae. Her three flavors were cotton candy, tie-dye Italian ice and pistachio, with strawberry, chocolate and caramel toppings.

If you’re looking for more of a challenge, Sunshine Scoop Shoppe also offers the Belly Buster. The Belly Buster is 15 scoops of ice cream, a whole can of whip cream, cherries and gummy bears. If you finish this in 20 minutes, you not only get all of that for free, but you also get a T-shirt. Only one person has taken the challenge and succeeded.

The last stop is at a fairly familiar place–some refer to it as the BK Lounge. When walking into Burger King, 913 W. Lincoln Highway, I had my heart set on ordering and writing about their tacos, but then I saw it: the Bacon Sundae.

That was not a typo, this is for real. Burger King has mixed vanilla soft serve, hot fudge, caramel and smoked bacon for one killer craving-buster.

Something else Burger King has adopted is the new Coca-Cola soda machine. This futuristic touch screen machine allows for more than 100 drink mixtures so you can get as soda crazy as you’d like. My personal favorite is Sprite and raspberry lemonade.

Hopefully these yummy treats have inspired you to branch out and let your desire for new and creative foods be fulfilled.
