SAEM to start campaign to promote positive norms, behaviors
September 10, 2012
A campus-wide initiative, the focus of which is to teach students how to report problematic behaviors and situations, will begin this year, according to NIU Today.
Student Affairs and Enrollment Management will start a social marketing campaign and education workshop to promote positive norms, behaviors, values and customs, according to NIU Today.
The bystander education message will complement the Northern PACT principles on creating a just, caring, open, disciplined and celebrative community. This year, NIU will focus on the principle of discipline. The principle encourages people to accept responsibility and set expectations that guide behavior for the common good, said Kelly Wesener Michael, acting vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, in an NIU Today article.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to support bystander education by inviting trained facilitators to speak to their class and by offering projects, reflection assignments or extra credit for attending workshops, according to NIU Today.
