Embrace fall fashion with blazers, scarves

By Olivia Rajska

Fall is finally here, and that means replacing summer wear with warmer attire to get through breezy DeKalb days. Layering with whatever you already own is a great option. Here are a few fall styles that are fresh or still current for men and women.

Investing in versatile outerwear is a must for the season. There are plenty of unique styles to suit both men and women. Some classics include blazers, pea and trench coats, and motorcycle, military and varsity jackets. Outerwear is a great way to show off your style while keeping functionality in mind.

Accessories will keep your outerwear fresh and complement your fall look. Scarves can be wrapped in numerous ways around your neck, head and handbag. Men look very put together with a coat layered over a scarf. Doing this can dress up a coat in a way similar to how a tie can dress up a button-up shirt. Watches not only look classy, but wearing one will keep you from having to constantly look at your phone to check the time. A watch looks great on a man; however, there is something ultra-feminine and chic about a man’s watch on a woman’s wrist. So, ladies, feel free to borrow your male friend’s watch and see if it works for you.

A popular trend women should be aware of for the fall season is peplum. According to guardian.co.uk, Guardian fashion editor Jess Cartner-Morley said, “A peplum is a gathered strip of fabric at the waist of a piece of clothing, which forms a freestanding flounce over the hips.” The emphasis on the waist is very flattering for any figure. One could wear peplum as a top, dress or skirt. When wearing peplum on top, make sure your bottom half is less busy with a pencil skirt or pants and vice versa when wearing peplum on the bottom.

Men should take note of cardigan sweaters this season.. These sweaters can easily be dressed up with a button-up shirt and tie. They can also be casually paired with a T-shirt underneath. Cardigans come in various colors to suit any man’s taste, and mixing patterns and textures puts a fun touch on a simple yet classic look.

Good footwear is a must for the fall season. Not only do you want comfortable shoes, but they should also keep you warm with style. A popular look for women is riding boots. These boots look more put together than Ugg boots and make your outfit look fashionable without trying too hard. Loafers are becoming popular for women, but have always been a classic shoe for men. Men who choose loafers instead of sneakers will instantly look sophisticated. Loafers do not only have to be paired with dress pants; they can also be paired with jeans for a casual fall look.

Whether it’s fall, winter, spring or summer, each season calls for the embrace of new styles. Don’t be afraid to try new looks for the season and experiment with what you have in your closet.
