Hope Haven holds annual ‘Night by Night’ campaign

Today marks the start of “Night by Night,” an annual campaign to raise money for local homeless people in DeKalb.

Lesly Wicks , Hope Haven executive director, said this is the ninth year Hope Haven is holding the “Night by Night” campaign.

“Hope Haven is an agency that relies heavily on community support,” said Sue Guio , Hope Haven board member. “Everyone, no matter how small a donation, can make a difference.”

As it has been in the past, the goal for “Night by Night” this year is to raise $30,000.

“This year ‘Night by Night’ is even more critical than the past because of our recent expansion and a cut in state funding,” Wicks said.

Wicks said it costs $20 to provide essentials, such as food and shelter, for one person each night.

“Those who want to donate can sponsor one night of shelter or as many nights as they want,” Wicks said.

Guio said running the program with a $20 per night donation allows sponsors to see where their money actually goes.

Though the event is in May, Hope Haven receives donations for “Night by Night” throughout the year.
