Campus blotter for 4/10/12

Thursday

At 11:22 a.m., an officer responded to Graham Hall regarding a theft. Upon arrival, the officer met with a person who said someone stole one of his beer bottles. This case is pending investigation.

At 4:50 p.m., officers on patrol observed a vehicle stopped in a roadway. Contact with the driver, Michael C. Mathieu, 23, of Spring Hill, Fla., revealed he had an active warrant from Stephenson County. He was processed at the NIU Police Department and taken to DeKalb County Jail when he could not post bond. Mathieu received a verbal warning for improper stopping in the roadway.

At 11:43 p.m., an officer in the Lincoln Hall Service Drive smelled an odor consistent with cannabis emanating from a vehicle. The vehicle’s driver, Alex K. Nichols, 19, of Rockford, admitted to smoking cannabis, and contact revealed cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Nichols was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 11:26 p.m., an officer at Grant North Service Drive observed a vehicle driving without headlights on. The officer made contact with the driver, Peter J. Turenne, 19, of Chicago, who admitted to smoking cannabis. Further investigation produced cannabis and drug paraphernalia. The driver was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Turenne was processed at the NIU Police Station and released after posting $150 bond.

Saturday

At 3:23 a.m., an officer responded to Swen Parson Hall for a report of vandalism. Upon arrival, he met with a person who said someone had drawn graffiti on a concrete garbage can. This case is administratively closed pending new leads.

Sunday

At 8:39 a.m., an officer conducting an exterior check of the Stevens Annex observed graffiti painted on a brick wall. This case is administratively closed pending new leads.
