The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Friday
At 10:40 p.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a vehicle not using its headlights traveling southbound on the 400 block of East Hillcrest Drive. The officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Marche D. Watson, 20, of DeKalb, provided the officer with an Illinois ID card and said her insurance was at home. The officer found Watson also had a suspended driver’s license. Watson was arrested, taken the DeKalb Police Department and later released on bond.
At 10:48 p.m., a DeKalb police officer observed the driver a tan Dodge not wearing a seat belt. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 900 block of North Seventh Street. The driver, Diane C. Hopkins, 41, of Sycamore, adamantly said she was wearing her seat belt but admitted to wearing it improperly under her arm. The officer found Hopkins had a suspended driver’s license. Hopkins was arrested, taken to the DeKalb Police Department and later released on bond.
Saturday
At 1:22 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a tan Dodge accelerate and slow repeatedly, while weaving within its lane. The officer initiated a traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle. The officer observed the driver had very glassy eyes and could smell an strong odor of alcoholic liquor coming from the driver’s breath. The driver, Sam Dvorak Jr., 58, of DeKalb, failed standard field sobriety tests and submitted a breath sample of .165. Dvorak Jr. was arrested. The passenger left the scene prior to receiving a citation for not wearing a seat belt but will be cited at a later date.
At 2:37 a.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a vehicle disobey a stop sign in the 900 block of Fotis Drive. The officer initiated a traffic stop and observed the driver had blood shot and glassy eyes and could smell an odor of alcoholic liquor coming from the driver. The driver, Christopher W. Kidya, 20, of Downers Grove, admitted to consuming two beers prior to the traffic stop. Kidya was charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol and disobeying a traffic control device.
Sunday
At 4:54 a.m., DeKalb police officers responded to the McDonald’s drive-thru in reference to a driver found sleeping in his car. Upon arrival, police observed the vehicle running and approached the driver. The vehicle was in park and the keys were in the ignition. The officers saw the driver sleeping in the driver’s seat. After several attempts of pounding on the window and shining a flashlight in the driver’s eyes, he rolled down the window and officers smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. The driver, Anthony J. Battle, 22, of Chicago, submitted a breath sample of .131 and was arrested for driving under the influence and over .08 and driving while license was suspended.
