Huskie Briefs for 3/20/12

NIU baseball’s Kyle Glancy and women’s golf’s Allie Parthie were named the NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week for March 12 through March 18, according to a press release.

Glancy, a senior, got two saves last week for the Huskies in their wins versus Southern Illinois and Illinois. He didn’t surrender a hit or a walk in either game. Glancy has a 3.3 GPA while majoring in Marketing.

Parthie, a junior, averaged 78.5 per round in the Huskies two tournaments over spring break. She had her best finish of the week in the 26th Annual NIU Snowbird Intercollegiate, where she placed fifth. She has a 3.917 GPA while majoring in Biology/Pre-medicine.

Softball goes 5–4 over Spring Break

NIU softball (12-13) ended its nine-game spring break road trip Sunday with a 2–0 loss to Boston University (14–8).

Over spring break, Stephanie Tofft led the Huskies with a .400 batting average, knocking in nine runs and scored seven.

NIU pitcher Megan Dortch led the pitching staff by recording 50 strikeouts, with a 1.97 earned run average. Dortch had a 3–3 record in her six appearances over the nine-game trip.

The Huskies will have a week off before returning to action in their home opener versus Illinois State March 27.
