City blotter for 2/7/12

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Friday
At 8:39 p.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop at Eighth Street and Oak Street for a vehicle that failed to yield. The driver, Juan Rosas-Leon, 44, of DeKalb, was charged with driving with no driver’s license. Rosas-Leon was arrested and transported to the DeKalb County Jail pending bond.
Saturday
At 12:57 a.m., a DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy located a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road on Bethany Road. After further investigation, the driver, Max E. Vande Walle, 18, of DeKalb, was arrested for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. The two passengers, Dalton J. Henninger, 19, of Naperville and Bradley M. Minogue, 19, of Blue Island, were arrested for unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor. All were transported to the DeKalb County Jail pending bond.
At 2:43 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a vehicle turn southbound onto North Annie Glidden Road from Hillcrest. The vehicle turned so fast that it slid and the rear passenger tire hopped the curb. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver, Daniel C. Clark, 23, of DeKalb, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. As Clark was being taken into custody, the passenger, Matthew J. Gillen, 20, of Zurich, attempted to flee from the scene. Both Gillen and Clark were taken into custody and transported to the DeKalb Police Department. Clark was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane usage. Zurich was charged with resisting a peace officer, obstructing identification and consumption of alcohol by a minor. Both were later released on bond.
At 4:28 p.m., the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at the corner of Lincoln Highway and 10th Street because the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. The driver, Gabino Dominguez, 26, of DeKalb was arrested and charged with no valid driver’s license. Dominguez was later released on bond.
At 5:30 p.m., a deputy arrested Kierra Langston, 19, of DeKalb, at her residence in the 700 block of North Annie Glidden Road, on a failure to appear warrant for obstructing justice. Langston was unable to post bond and was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
Sunday
At 1:25 a.m., a DeKalb police officer initiated a traffic stop in the 900 block of Ridge Drive. The back seat passenger, Anthony D. Harper-Sampson, 21, of DeKalb, was not wearing his seat belt. The officer found Harper-Sampson had a valid DeKalb County warrant. Harper-Sampson was placed under arrest and charged with failure to appear and not wearing a seat belt. Harper-Sampson was transported to the DeKalb Police Department and was later released on bond.
At 1:58 a.m., a DeKalb police officer initiated a traffic stop in the 900 block of West Hillcrest Drive on a driving under the influence suspicion. The officer spoke with the driver, Danielle N. Benn, 19, of Hazelcrest, and asked her to perform standard field sobriety tests. Benn failed and provided a breath sample that registered at .142. Benn was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to signal when required. Benn was arrested, transported to the DeKalb Police Department and later released on bond.
At 2:39 p.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a vehicle in the westbound curb lane in the 100 block of East Lincoln Highway. As the officer pulled behind the vehicle, the vehicle turned quickly onto northbound First Street. The driver, John L. Jennings, 21, of Wheaton, did not use his turn signal when he turned. The officer followed the vehicle eastbound on West Locust Street and initiated a traffic stop. Jennings was charged with two counts of driving under the influence and failure to signal when required.
At 2:45 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a silver Honda Accord traveling southbound in the 100 block of North Second Street. The vehicle turned right onto the 100 block of West Lincoln Highway and did not use a turn signal. The officer observed the vehicle weaving in its own lane. The vehicle turned into McDonald’s west drive-thru and struck the right curb as it pulled in. The officer initiated a traffic stop and arrested the driver, Andrew R. Perry, 25, of DeKalb, for driving under the influence and over .08 and for no turn signal. Perry was transported to the DeKalb Police Department.
At 2:27 a.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound in the 900 block of Crane Drive, and the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The officer initiated a traffic stop and could smell an alcoholic odor coming from inside the vehicle. The driver, Clinton M. Lawler, 19, of Gurnee, denied consuming any alcoholic liquor. Lawler failed field sobriety tests, refused to provide a breath sample and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Lawler was transported to the DeKalb Police Department, where he began his 20 minute observation period. After the observation period, Lawler provided a breath sample which registered at .042. The officer amended the charge to zero tolerance. Lawler was charged with unlawful consumption of alcoholic liquor and driving without a seat belt. Lawler was later released on bond.
At 9:23 p.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a vehicle travelling approximately 40 mph in a 30 mph zone on West Lincoln Highway. The vehicle’s side tires were driving on the top of the dashed white lane markers for about two blocks. The officer ran the vehicle’s registration and found the owner had a valid warrant. The officer initiated a traffic stop and verified the driver was the owner. The officer also noticed the vehicle’s high beam indicator was on. The driver, Gudina Gurara, 26, of DeKalb, said he was driving with high beams on because he had a headlight out. Gurara also had no proof of insurance. Gurara was charged with driving without insurance, failure to dim headlights and having a warrant on a failure to appear for driving with a suspended driver’s license. Gurara was arrested and later released on bond.
Monday
At 1:17 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the 100 block of North Annie Glidden Road. The driver made a right turn onto 1100 West Hillcrest without using a turn signal. The officer initiated a traffic stop and found the driver, Sohaib A. Haleem, 21, of DeKalb, had a suspended driver’s license and valid failure to appear warrant. Haleem was charged with driving with a suspended license, failure to signal when required, driving without insurance and failure to appear. Haleem was arrested, transported to the DeKalb Police Department and later released on bond.
At 3:40 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a vehicle exit the northeast exit of the Road Ranger parking lot, turning south onto Annie Glidden Road. The driver failed to use his turn signal and the officer initiated a traffic stop. The officer found the driver, Vince W. Reives, 56, of DeKalb, had a suspended driver’s license. Reives was charged for driving with a suspended license and failure to signal when required. Reives was arrested, transported to the DeKalb Police Department and later released on bond.
