Businesses fail tobacco compliance checks
February 20, 2012
Nine DeKalb businesses failed tobacco compliance checks by selling tobacco to minors in a second round of inspections conducted Wednesday.
A total of 28 businesses were inspected.
According to a press release from the DeKalb Police Department, “With the help from a grant awarded by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission’s ‘Kids Can’t Buy Em Here’ Tobacco Enforcement Program, the City of DeKalb has been educating tobacco retailers on minimum-age tobacco laws and the importance of verifying the age of their customers while conducting compliance checks of area tobacco retailers.”
Each tobacco retailer was given an information kit and spoke with a police department employee.
