Luis Felipe Hernandez-Palmeros, 21, of DeKalb died early Sunday morning when his Hyundai rear-ended a semitrailer and trailer at the intersection of West Lincoln Highway and Normal Road.

According to a press release from the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office, two other passengers were injured in Hernandez-Palmeros’ vehicle. Both Francisco J. Villanueva, 33, of Joliet, and Isidro Hernandez, 29, of DeKalb, were transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital. Villanueva was treated an released. Isidro Hernandez was later transported to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

The passengers were classified on a traffic crash report as maintaining incapacitating injury.

The driver of the semitruck and trailer, Pavel P. Volkov, 31, of Mt. Prospect, was classified on the traffic crash report as maintaining no indication of injury.

According to DeKalb police, no one involved in the accident were NIU students.
