Circuit Judge Robbin Stuckert denied a bond reduction motion Monday for one of the men charged in connection with the Sept. 28 shooting in the Village Commons Bookstore parking lot.

The attorney for Luther Teagues, 18, requested bond be reduced to $100,000 as Teagues’ family had stated they hoped to raise $10,000 in order to secure Teagues’ release from jail. Teagues is currently being held at DeKalb County Jail on a $300,000 bond. Teagues will need to pay $30,000 in order to be released.

Stephanie Klein, DeKalb County Assistant State’s Attorney, said the prosecution was opposed to the bond reduction due to the nature of the crime and evidence indicating that the defendant knew of the plan to rob the victim at gunpoint.

Teagues is charged with armed robbery and armed violence, both of which are class X felonies. Teagues is also charged with obstruction of justice, a class 4 felony. Four others have been arrested in connection with the Sept. 28 shooting, including Devonte Matticx, 16, of Posen, the alleged shooter.

Teagues’ next scheduled court date is Dec. 22.
