City blotter for 11/21/11

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Thursday

At 3:53 p.m., DeKalb Police received a report of a man trespassing in the parking lot of a residence in the 800 block of West Lincoln Highway using a computer. The officer checked he license plates of the vehicle and found the registered owner, Tracy S. Kunkel, 43, of Wilmington, had a suspended driver’s license and was wanted on a failure to appear warrant for unlawful display. The officer observed the vehicle exit the parking lot and performed a traffic stop. Kunkel was confirmed as the driver of the vehicle and was arrested. Kunkel was taken to the DeKalb Police Station and later transported to DeKalb County Jail.

Friday

At 10:29 p.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle turn into the Shop N Stop Food Mart. The officer checked the registration on the vehicle and found the registered owner, Sage C.D. Gutierrez, 20, of DeKalb, was wanted on a failure to appear warrant for fighting in the city and did not have a valid driver’s license. The vehicle left the parking lot and the officer performed a traffic stop in the 600 block of East Lincoln Highway. Gutierrez was found to be the backseat passenger of the vehicle. The front seat passenger, Jimmy T. Loucks, 18, of DeKalb, was also wanted on a failure to appear warrant for unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor. Loucks and Gutierrez were arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. Both were later transported to DeKalb County Jail.

At 11:31 a.m., DeKalb Police checked the registration of a vehicle in traffic in the 500 block of Prospect Street. The registered owner of the vehicle, Jolie M. Bray, 28, of DeKalb, had a suspended driver’s license. The officer performed a traffic stop and found Bray was driving the vehicle. Bray was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. She was later released on bond.

At 1:25 p.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle turn the wrong way down a one-way street in the 100 block of South Second Street. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Bernardo Hoyos, 40, of DeKalb, did not have a valid driver’s license. Hoyos was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond.

Saturday

At 1:24 a.m., DeKalb Police observed a pickup truck driving on the curb and driving over white lane markers in the 400 block of West Lincoln Highway. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Joshua R. Robbins, 26, of DeKalb, was driving under the influence of alcohol. The passenger, Scott R. Huddleston, 29, of DeKalb, was wanted on a failure to appear warrant for the delivery of a controlled substance. Both men were arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station for booking.

At 3:44 a.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle without headlights on in the 200 block of East Lincoln Highway. The officer performed a traffic stop. The driver told the officer the vehicle was not hers and she was not aware that the headlights were not on. The owner, Mario K. Kemp, 39, of DeKalb, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was found to have a valid Failure to Appear warrant for no insurance from Whiteside County. Kemp was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond.

At 10:52 a.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s Police responded to a residence in the 1400 block of Freed Road in Sycamore for a report of a domestic battery in progress. Upon arrival, officers placed Kaleb L. McNew, 18, of Sycamore, under arrest. McNew was charged with two counts of domestic battery and one count of resisting a police officer. He was transported to DeKalb County Jail for booking.

At 6 p.m., a man driving on Five Points Road failed to notice a man driving a John Deer tractor and crashed into the tractor’s chipper trailer. The driver, Stephen Kessler, 62, of DeKalb, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Kessler was taken to DeKalb County Jail.

Sunday

At 3 a.m., DeKalb Police were investigating a battery in the 900 block of Pappas Drive. One of the battery victim’s friends refused to leave the property. The man, Kurt M. Gunlock, 23, of Bristol, was warned multiple times and became extremely hostile toward police and property staff. Gunlock walked back onto the parking lot of the property and was arrested. He was taken to the DeKalb Police Station and charged with criminal trespass to real property.

At 3:42 a.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle in the 400 block of North Annie Glidden Road without headlights on. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Darryl Robbins, 18, of Aurora, was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Robbins was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station and later released on bond.
