Give thanks for these Turkey Day events

By Connor Rice

The world don’t stop for Thanksgiving.

Even with the half-week break soon upon us, DeKalb will still be swinging with local events.

If you’re sticking around for as long as you can or coming back a little early, make sure to keep yourself enthused with these area activities.

WHAT: The Hip Hop Pre-Thanksgiving Celebration

WHO: Kosha Dillz, Cauz ‘N’ Effx, BASIC, Crucifix Payne, Illuminati Congo

WHEN: 7 p.m. Wednesday

WHERE: The House Café, 263 E. Lincoln Highway

COST: TBA

WHY: Come join touring emcee Kosha Dillz as he stops in DeKalb on his food-drive-focused winter tour. Bring a canned good to donate and get $1 off the still unannounced cover price. With the holiday season gearing up, helping a good cause is not a bad idea – a cause besides local music, that is.

WHAT: How to Train Your Dragon

WHEN: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday

WHERE: The Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St.

COST: Free

WHY: Free movie showing: What better way to challenge the societal institution of Black Friday than by doing something that doesn’t encourage frivolous spending? Roll out of bed for the 2 p.m. show and go get a beer downtown afterwards. Assuming you’re 21, that is.

WHAT: Danksgiving

WHO: Dr. Ed and Friends, Casa Karma, Machine Gun Moses, Ethereal Groove Inc.

WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday

WHERE: The House Café, 263 E. Lincoln Highway

COST: $8

WHY: Black Friday shopping will long be over. If you’re not too exhausted from fighting over HD TVs, head over to the house for some psychedelic grooves from local jam bands like Machine Gun Moses.
