Casey’s raises more than $4,500 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Casey’s General Store, corner of Annie Glidden Road and Hillcrest, covered their walls and ceiling wih more than $4500 donations given to St. Judes Children’s Cancer Research.

Casey’s General Store in DeKalb placed second in the nation for the most money earned for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, throughout the Casey’s organization. The Dekalb location also placed first in participating mid-western states.

Casey’s General Store in DeKalb raised more than $4,500 for St. Jude in October.

Patrons were asked to donate $1 with each purchase, and all proceeds went to St. Jude.

Donnie Jones, store manager at Casey’s General Store, 1001 N. Annie Glidden Road, said 90 percent of the corner-store’s customers are college students.

“I was really impressed with the customers this year and their generosity,” Jones said.

According to the organization’s website, Casey’s General Stores started in 1959 with a single store in Des Moines, Iowa. It has since grown to nearly 1,700 stores in 11 states.
