Bass suspended for final two games

Jamaal Bass will not play in NIU football’s final two games of 2011. Last Friday, NIU athletic Director Jeff Compher announced in a news release that Bass would be suspended for the matchup tonight against Ball State, as well as next week’s game versus Eastern Michigan Nov. 25.

“After making the immediate determination to suspend Jamaal for the Bowling Green game, we received additional information and were able to conduct a more thorough review of the incident at Toledo,” Compher said in a news release. “That review prompted us to take this action.”

Bass was originally suspended for the Huskies’ game against Bowling Green. As NIU took the field against Toledo the week before, Bass was involved with the Rockets’ marching band. The Mid American Conference announced in its own news release last week that it approved the two game suspension of NIU’s redshirt freshman linebacker.

“After further investigation into this matter, we feel the additional two-game suspension of Jamaal Bass is appropriate,” said MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher in a news release. “We concur with the action implemented by Northern Illinois University. This suspension will end up representing one-fourth of the regular season and we support the collective suspension as appropriate.”
