Campus blotter for 11/21/11

Thursday

At 11:08 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a vehicle drive past a stop sign without stopping. The officer contacted the driver of the vehicle and detected the smell of cannabis. The officer searched the vehicle, which revealed cannabis and drug paraphernalia. The driver was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

At 11:14 p.m., an officer conducting a floor check of the ninth floor of Stevenson A Tower observed a person in the hallway disposing of a trash bag and a liquor bottle. The officer contacted with the person, which revealed that she was a minor. She was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

At 11:16 p.m., an officer responded to the fourth floor of Lincoln Hall D Wing for liquor law violations. Upon arrival, he met with the on-duty CA regarding loud music and alcohol in the room. The officer contacted the occupants of the room, which revealed alcoholic beverages. Three people were referred the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor. One person was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor.

Friday

At 1:41 a.m., officers completing a check of Neptune West third floor made contact with a highly intoxicated student. Upon further investigation, the student was found to be a minor who had consumed alcohol. He was referred to the office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

At 12:20 p.m. officers initiated a traffic stop at the 900 block of Fotis Drive. After making contact with the driver, officers discovered his driving privileges had been revoked. Officers placed Marcus J. Branch, 19, under arrest for driving with a revoked drivers license. Upon the completion of a search of the driver, officers discovered a small clear plastic bag containing cannabis. Branch was also charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and was transported to DeKalb County Jail.

At 6:08 p.m., officers responded to Founders Memorial Library for a report of a person feeling harassed by another patron. Upon investigation, the person said a man in the area was making them feel uncomfortable. After speaking with both parties involved, officers advised the man not to have any further contact with the person and issued a verbal warning for disorderly conduct.

At 7:51 p.m., a student came into the NIU Police Community Safety Center at Stevenson Hall to report her wallet stolen from her room on the 11th floor of Stevenson Hall. This case is pending investigation.

Saturday

At 1:07 a.m., a security guard noticed pink lettering on the south side sign of McMurray Hall. Upon arrival, officers photographed and documented the damage. Due to lack of leads, this case is administratively closed.

At 10 p.m., an officer observed two men assisting a third man walk through Central Park by holding him by his arms. Upon further investigation, the officer determined the man needed assistance walking because he had consumed alcohol as a minor. The officer referred him to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

At 10:54 p.m., officers responded to the first floor of Lincoln Hall A-Wing in response to a man and woman arguing. Upon investigation officers determined the man battered the woman. Jarrell D. Ross, 18, of Lansing was arrested for domestic battery and was transported to DeKalb County Jail.
