Harnish wins MAC award; Spann signs with Buccaneers

For the second time this season, NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish was named MAC West Player of the Week, according to a press release.

The Huskies’ signal caller’s performance helped guide his team to a 51-22 victory over Western Michigan Saturday.

The redshirt senior had 229 yards on 14 carries on the ground while airing it out for 203 yards on 14 of 27 attempts.

Harnish became to the 10th player in NCAA (FBS) history to go over the 200-yard mark on the ground and through the air in the same game.

Basketball to hold “Tip-Off”

NIU basketball fans will have a chance to meet the head coaches for each respective squad.

On Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m., The Huskies will hold their “Huskies Basketball Tip-Off” at Eduardo’s Mexican Restaurant located on 214 East Lincoln Highway  in downtown DeKalb.

NIU men’s head coach Mark Montgomery and the women’s head coach Kathi Bennett will be in attendance.

Appetizers and a cash bar will be offered by Eduardo’s, and the event is free and open to the public.

Season ticket holders will be able to pick up their Huskie basketball season tickets at Eduardo’s.

If fans can’t make it out, tickets will be mailed the following day.

Spann signs with Tampa

According to multiple reports, former NIU running back Chad Spann has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s practice squad.

Spann totaled 2,916 rushing yards on 536 carries with 48 touchdowns during his four-year career as a Huskie.

He captured the MAC Offensive Player of the Year after recording a school-record 22 touchdowns along with 1,388 rushing yards.

Initially, Spann was signed as undrafted free agent in July by the Indianapolis Colts and was eventually cut.
