‘The Cool’ Lupe Fiasco to chill out at the Convo
October 3, 2011
Getting around west campus is going to be a fiasco
tonight.
Rapper Lupe Fiasco will perform with Tinie Tempah at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Convocation Center, 1525 W. Lincoln Highway.
The Chicago native and highly regarded MC will tour in support of his third full-length album, Lasers, which released in March. Fiasco also is using this tour to commemorate the five-year anniversary of his first album, Food & Liquor.
The two-month tour will make frequent stops at colleges, including the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Iowa Sate University, Eastern Michigan University and Northern
Illinois University.
Fiasco, who became popular after his songs “Kick, Push” and “Daydreamin'” became hits in 2006, has gained notoriety for his outspoken stances on politics, the war on terror and segregation
in Chicago.
“I practice what I preach, and I preach what I practice,” Fiasco said in a May 9 interview on the Colbert Report. “My music is no less an extension of my life and the things I was taught and the way I was raised in Chicago.
Fiasco is known for inserting his political and social beliefs into his music, and his opinions are sure to be voiced at the concert tonight.
Politics aside, Fiasco remains one of the most creative and talented rappers in the game today; the opportunity to see him perform shouldn’t be missed.
