City blotter for 10/17/11

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Thursday

At 8:25 a.m., DeKalb Police checked the registration of a vehicle in traffic in the 800 block of South Fourth Street. The officer found the registered owner, Isela Loepz, 32, of DeKalb, was wanted on a failure to appear warrant for battery. The officer performed a traffic stop and found Lopez was driving. She was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. She was later released on bond.

Friday

At 1:38 a.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle in the 600 block of North Annie Glidden Road change lanes without signaling. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Stephen M. Bay, 61, of Des Plaines, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Bay was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond.

At 4:24 p.m., DeKalb Police observed two men in the back seat of a vehicle in the 1000 block of Oak Street who hid their faces as the officer drove by. The officer checked the vehicle and noticed the smell of burnt cannabis inside. A small amount of cannabis was located inside the vehicle. One of the occupants, Devante L. Jefferson, of University Park, provided the officer with a false date of birth. Jefferson was arrested and charged with obstructing identification and possession of cannabis. Jefferson was taken to the DeKalb Police Station and later released on bond.

At 10:54 p.m., a DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to NIU homecoming detail stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Annie Glidden Road and Lucinda Avenue after it failed to signal at two consecutive turns. The driver, Alejandro Sanchez, 20, of DeKalb, was found to be driving under the influence of drugs. Sanchez was arrested and transported to DeKalb County Jail.

At 11:03 p.m., a DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle on Lincoln Highway east of Glidden Road in DeKalb. The registered owner, Hans S. Johnson, 19, of DeKalb, was found to have an active warrant and a suspended driver’s license. Johnson was arrested for the warrant, as well as driving with a suspended license, zero tolerance, and the unlawful consumption of alcohol. Johnson was transported to DeKalb County Jail.

At 11:18 p.m., DeKalb Police responded to a residence in the 900 block of West Hillcrest Drive for a possible domestic situation. Upon arrival, officers made contact with an individual, Brandi Mendoza, 39, of DeKalb, who was found to be wanted on an active warrant. Mendoza was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. She was later transported to DeKalb County Jail.

Saturday

At 1:41 a.m., DeKalb Police were dispatched to the 1900 block of South Annie Glidden Road to assist Illinois State Police in a traffic stop at a tollbooth. The driver, Martin Villagrana, 20, of DeKalb, was wanted on a failure to appear warrant for a disorderly house. Villagrana was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond.

At 2:30 a.m., a DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy at the intersection of Annie Glidden Road and West Lincoln Highway observed a male and a female arguing in a parking lot. The deputy observed the female, Jennifer T. Morgan, 22, of Chicago, strike the male on the forehead with an object. Morgan was arrested and charged with domestic battery. She was transported to DeKalb County Jail.

At 4:08 a.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s Police stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Hillcrest Drive and Spiros Court for failing to use a turn signal. The driver, Megan T. Gurin, 21, of DeKalb, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Gurin was arrested and transported to DeKalb County Jail.

At 4:57 a.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Annie Glidden Road and Bethany Road for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver, Rolando Martinez, 26, of Cicero, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Martinez was arrested and transported to DeKalb County Jail.

At 5:46 p.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies observed a speeding vehicle on Twombly Road. The driver, Loren Korth, 54, of Sycamore, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Korth was arrested and transported to DeKalb County Jail.
