Northern Star takes second in national awards

The Northern Star placed second in two categories at a national college media convention Saturday.

Managing Editor Kyla Gardner won second place in Story of the Year for her Feb. 11 article on NIU’s Late Night Ride service at the 90th Annual Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Advisers National College Media Convention in Orlando, Fla.

Campus Editor Matt Liparota and Northern Star alumna Lauren Stott also won second place in Design of the Year: Magazine/Special Section Cover for their Summer 2010 Facebook-themed orientation issue.

The Daily Northwestern at Northwestern University and THINK at Drake University took home first in the categories, respectively.

According to its website, the Associated Collegiate Press was founded in 1921 and is the oldest and largest national membership organization for college student journalists.
