Konerko as Sox Skipper? No way.

By Jimmy Johnson

Paul Konerko is an almost guarantee to be a consistent year-in and year-out player for the Chicago White Sox.

Despite his concrete feet and inability to run normally, he’s the last of any worries for Sox fans with his reliable bat and glove.

But what about pulling a pitcher out of a game or making a switch in the outfield as a manager?

Silly, isn’t it?

That was a brief thought of general manager Kenny Williams, as he contemplated making Konerko a player-manager.

Precious, Kenny.

Sure, Konerko is the team captain, but you let this outlandish thought run through your head?

Why in the world would you think about putting your best player in that kind of an awful position?

Konerko is a class act.

Perhaps, years from now, once he’s gained 20 pounds and gone a bit batty in the head, he’ll plop his butt on the bench for the Sox.

But, thankfully, for now, he’ll just have to worry about playing and not managing.
