What is the best way to take advantage of Fall weather?

You should enjoy the last little bit of comfortable weather on your bicycle. There are tons of state and local parks within a 45-minute drive of DeKalb where you can enjoy some mountain biking. For leisurely adventures, I recommend biking along Kishwaukee River or head to St. Charles and ride on the Fox River Trail. Enjoy the next month as much as possible so you do not get cabin fever after DeKalb’s six-month winter.

I think it’s already too late to get a last minute swim in. Since it soon will start to get cold out and be primarily football and hockey season, all the baseball and basketball players out there should give it one last shot before the weather gets unbearable. Also anyone who rides a bike, rollberblades, or skateboards to class should take full advantage of it. Soon it will be too cold and icy to do that, and students will be forced to take the buses. Personally, I’m more of a fall person, so I can’t think of a whole lot of things to do before it gets cold out. I think this is the best weather because all you need is a hoodie and jeans. Soon all the leaves will start to change, and people can jump in them like when they were little or go on a nice, scenic hike.

Fall is my favorite season for one reason and one reason only: football! There is nothing better than a good game of pigskin on a beautiful fall day. Fresh air and the beautiful red and yellow leaves provide the perfect backdrop for running around, hitting people and scoring touchdowns. The weather is perfect, so you have to take advantage before it gets too cold. But don’t fear, because when it comes time to talk about the best winter activities, I’ll talk about the only sport that is even comparable to football: Snow Football.

The abysmal ice and bone-chilling wind prepares to invade DeKalb shortly. Make the best of the rest of fall frisbee golfing at Prairie Park. Frisbee golf (or frolf) is a sport where a person throws frisbees at giant cups to knock them over. Ask my friends; I’m no frolf champion by any measure, but what I can tell you is that it’s a fun, low cost and convenient activity for students. Cheap golf is also around DeKalb. For Huskies on a budget, hit the links at Prairie Pines Golf Club, a definite duffer track, that costs $12 to walk nine holes. How can you beat free frolf or cheap golf?

Fall gives me a chance to embrace the days when I’m not dying of heat exhaustion. It means spending my days outdoors while maintaining the ability to function. I love throwing a football with friends and taking nice walks. I love watching amazing sunsets from the parking garage. When it rains, I love running through the puddles in jeans and a hoodie. I also love mixing up my outfits for each day, having layers in case it gets chilly. I choose to view fall as the time to take advantage of what the cool days have to offer.
