Two armed robberies reported over the weekend

DeKALB | DeKalb Police are investigating two armed robberies that occurred earlier this week.

DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler said at about 6:50 a.m. Sunday, a man walking in the 200 block of Blackhawk Drive was struck in the back of the head with an unknown object. Spangler said the attacker displayed a handgun and demanded property from the victim.

Spangler said the attacker was described as a black male of average build, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and  wearing an ash gray sweatshirt with a design on the front. Spangler said the victim was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, 1 Kish Hospital Drive, to be treated for minor injuries.

According to police reports, the other incident occurred at about 12:14 a.m. Monday. A man walking in the 1000 block of West Hillcrest Drive was approached by a man wearing a navy blue or black sweatshirt asking for directions to Russell Road, the report stated.

According to the report, when the victim began to provide directions, another individual approached the victim from behind and put a handgun to the victim’s head. The attackers then demanded property from the victim, then ran north through the Campus Cinemas, 1015 Blackhawk Road,  parking lot.

Spangler said the man who asked for directions was a black male with a goatee, described as stocky and about 5 feet 9 inches tall, . The second attacker was described as a thin, black male about 5 feet 11 inches tall. Both men had short hair.

Spangler said police are continuing to investigate each incident separately and looking for connections between them. At this time, however, police have no evidence connecting the incidents, he said.
