Student Association Organizational Expo to highlight student groups
September 13, 2011
Students looking to get involved in a club or organization or just to see what opportunities are available at NIU can find some answers today.
The Student Association’s Organizational Expo will take place at Central Park from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. The expo will offer free food, music and giveaways.
“The Organizational Expo is an annual event which provides over 100 recognized student organizations and departments the opportunity to promote themselves to [NIU’s] student population,” said Delonte LeFlore, director of Student Life for the SA. “The Organizational Expo is also a great opportunity for our first year and transfer students to meet and greet some of the best student leaders around campus.”
One group that will appear at the expo is the Campus Activities Board.
“We are trying to get info to students about CAB and get them interested in joining,” said Brianna Dark, vice president of programming for CAB. “We want to intrigue them about what CAB is and get a different demographic involved.”
Greek organizations will also be present.
“If you want to learn more about fraternity and sorority life, this is a great way to learn about the different chapters,” said Melissa Williams, associate director for Student Involvement and Leadership Development.
Not only will the expo showcase different organizations on campus, it will also give away prizes through bingo games, such as t-shirts, hats, water bottles, and a gift certificate to the University Bookstore. The bingo game involves students visiting different organizational booths assigned to each letter and getting information on that organization.
Other groups in attendance will be the Residence Hall Association, ROTC. Students can also find information from community service, diversity and cultural, religious, honor society, programming and performance, political, public media or social advocacy, and academic interest and professional groups.
