DeKalb city police blotter for Sept. 6

The following was taken from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb county court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Wednesday

  • At 10:02 p.m. in the 300 block of West Lincoln Highway, DeKalb Police observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Jori L. Butts, 20, of DeKalb, was driving with a suspended license. Butts was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. She was later released on bond.

Friday

  • At 2:39 a.m., DeKalb Police in the 500 block of North Annie Glidden Road observed a vehicle driving with its high-beam headlights on. The vehicle failed to dim the lights as it passed the officer, who initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Martin M. Castro, 19, of Chicago, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Castro was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later taken to DeKalb County Jail.

 

  • At 3:32 p.m., DeKalb Police were dispatched to the 200 block of John Street to investigate criminal trespass to property. Upon arrival, the officer observed Sharnice Latrice Shamone Glenn, 24, of DeKalb, lying near a tree at the rear of the property. Glenn told the officer she was aware that she was banned from the property. Glenn was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. She was later taken to DeKalb County Jail.

 

  • At 11:19 p.m., a DeKalb Police officer in the 700 block of Regent Drive was flagged down by the victim of a battery. The officer spoke with the victim and the suspect and found the suspect had a valid failure to appear warrant for battery. Corey A. Hopkins, 24, of Malta, was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later taken to DeKalb County Jail.

Saturday

  • At 12:24 a.m., DeKalb Police in the 800 block of Regent Drive were flagged down by a person who had locked his keys in his car. While officers were attempting to open the vehicle, the person’s friend came outside. After the officers had opened the vehicle, they noticed a clear plastic bag of green leafy substance directly outside the door of the vehicle. Neither persons admitted to owning the substance. The officers performed a check on the two friends to determine if either of them had any active warrants. Jonathan P. Hamilton, 20, of DeKalb was found to have a failure to appear warrant for driving with a suspended license. Hamilton was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond.

 

  • At 12:25 a.m., DeKalb Police officers on bike patrol in the 1000 block of Spiros Court attempted to stop a person carrying an open can of beer. When Tyler J. Larson, 20, of DeKalb, was asked to stop, he ran from the officers. The officers pursued Larson, who ran into an apartment where he did not live. The occupants of the apartment did not know Larson, who was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station and charged with obstructing a peace officer and unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor. He was later released on bond.
