NIU’s on-site meteorologist expects “warmer than average” autumn weather
September 22, 2011
With autumn officially underway, NIU Staff Meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste said this is not the last we’ve seen of warm weather.
Sebenste said cool weather is expected to stick around for one more week. While some days have been pleasant and others chilly, DeKalb is in for continuous warm weather next month.
“Typically in October and November, it will be warmer than average,” Sebenste said.
Last year, DeKalbians sweated through record high weather around 90 degrees due to La Nina, Sebenste said.
“We’re entering La Nina autumn temperature, which causes temperatures to cool off in the Pacific Ocean,” Sebenste said.
La Nina will produce mild autumn weather for October and November, following its usual patterns.
“This doesn’t mean we won’t get thunder storms or any cool snaps,” Sebenste said.
Temperatures are expected to be above-average, as they were during last year’s La Nina autumn weather.
Sebenste said the last week of September will have cooler weather. As we roll into October, the weather will start to warm and dry back up.
