City Blotter for 8/30/11

The following was taken from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb county court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Aug. 28

At 1:18 p.m., DeKalb Police responded to the 500 block of E. Taylor Street for a call of disorderly subjects. Upon arrival, the officer noticed a person walking around a parking lot. The officer asked David J. Piquett, 23, of DeKalb, if he had called the police. Piquett began cursing at the officer. The officer began an investigation and ultimately arrested Piquett and charged him with obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest. Piquett was taken to the DeKalb Police Station and later released on bond.

At 5:28 p.m., DeKalb Police in the 1400 block of Pleasant Street observed a vehicle fail to make a complete stop at an intersection. The officer initiated a traffic stop and found glass drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. The driver, Joshua D. Stelsel, 19, of DeKalb, admitted to smoking marijuana while driving. Stelsen was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. The passenger, Tyler P. Foreman, 22, of DeKalb was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and illegal transportation of alcohol. Stelsel and Foreman were taken to the DeKalb Police Station and later released on bond.

At 11:31 p.m., DeKalb Police responded to the 700 block of N. Annie Glidden Road for a report of a suspect wanted on a warrant. Police located the suspect, Freddie E. Sparks-Ward, 24, of Chicago and arrested and charged him with obstructing identification, and criminal trespass. Sparks-Ward also had a failure to appear warrant for aggravated unlawful restraint, as well as a warrant for two counts of criminal trespass. Sparks-Ward was taken to the DeKalb Police Station and later transported to DeKalb County Jail.
