Campus crime blotter 8/29/11

WEDNESDAY

At 1:20 p.m., a burglary to motor vehicle was reported from Lot 12. Several items were taken from a parked vehicle. This case is open pending further investigation.

At 3:16 p.m., a burglary to motor vehicle was reported from Lot A. Several items were taken from a parked vehicle. This case is closed pending the discovery of new information.

At 3:33 p.m., a burglary to motor vehicle was reported from Lot A. Several items were taken from a parked vehicle. This case is open pending further investigation.

At 3:54 p.m., a burglary to motor vehicle was reported from Lot A. Several items were taken from a parked vehicle. This case is closed pending the discovery of new information.

At 6:28 p.m., police received a call about a theft at the Student Recreation Center. The complainant reported someone had taken his cell phone and wallet, which contained his debit card, without his consent. The victim also reported that fraudulent transactions were conducted with his debit card. Through a series of interviews, the offender was identified. Ricco M. Campbell, 19, of Zion, was located and placed under arrest. Campbell was booked and transported to the DeKalb County Jail. Campbell also had outstanding warrants from the city and county of DeKalb.

At 8:50 p.m., officers responded to Neptune North for a report of someone shining a laser pointer from inside a room through windows of other rooms. Officers were able to identify the location from which the laser pointer was coming. Multiple offenders were identified and all were referred to the NIU Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for disorderly conduct.

THURSDAY

Between 7:15 a.m. and 11:03 a.m., 21 cases of criminal damage to a motor vehicle were reported from Lot C2. One vehicle had its windshield broken out. This case is open pending further investigation.

At 10:52 a.m., a complainant reported being harassed via electronic communications. Follow-up will be conducted with the State’s Attorney Office to seek a warrant for the offender.

At 12:20 a.m., a person was found to have unlawfully consumed alcohol. The person was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

At 3:50 p.m., the theft of a lost or mislaid wallet was reported at the Art Building. The complainant reported someone had made a purchase on her debit card without her consent. This case is open pending further investigation.

At 10:43 p.m., a person was found to unlawfully be in possession of alcohol at Hillcrest Drive and Blackhawk Road. The person was given a verbal warning.

At 11:40 p.m., an individual on a bicycle struck the driver’s side mirror on a police vehicle. then proceeded to flee from officers. Thomas A. Hurrell, 23, of Sugar Grove, was located at an off campus apartment and placed under arrest. Hurrell was transported to the NIU Police Department, where he was booked and released after posting bond.

FRIDAY

At 12:10 a.m., a person was found to have unlawfully consumed alcohol on North Douglas Drive. The person was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

At 12:12 a.m., a person was found to unlawfully be in possession of alcohol at Blackhawk Road and Ridge Drive. The person was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

At 12:30 a.m., a person was found to unlawfully be in possession of alcohol on Edgebrook Drive. The person was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

At 1:00 a.m., a person was found to have unlawfully consumed alcohol at Grant North. The person was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

At 1:00 a.m., two people were found to be possession of drug paraphernalia at Stevenson North. Both people were referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

At 1:00 a.m., the theft of a bicycle was reported from the exterior of Lincoln Hall. This case is open pending further investigation.

At 7:00 p.m., two people were found to be possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia at Lincoln Hall. Both were referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

SATURDAY

At 8:15 p.m., a wallet and pair of shoes were reported stolen from a room in Lincoln Hall. The victim left his room door open while he was away. This case is closed pending the discovery of new information.

At 11:50 a.m., a burglary to motor vehicle was reported from Lot E. Several items were taken from a parked vehicle. This case is open pending further investigation.

At 5:25 p.m., a person was found to be possession of a small amount of cannabis in Lot W. The person was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
