Campus crime blotter for July 19, 2011

July 7

At 12:00 a.m, an NIU Police officer was in foot pursuit of a suspect who attempted to kick in a door at Jenna’s Restaurant. Brenten J. Medows, 24, of DeKalb, was apprehended near Pappas Drive. He was arrested and charged with resisting a police officer and was turned over to the DeKalb Police Department.

July 8

At 3:54 a.m., NIU Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, Rickey A. Williams-Layfield, 20, of DeKalb, was arrested for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor after failing a breathalyzer test. Williams-Layfield posted $150 cash bond and was released.

At 9:30 p.m., NIU Police verified a warrant on a subject stopped at Crane and Russell. Kenneth J. Chew, 28, of Chicago, was found to have a quantity of cannabis on his person. Chew was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis 30 grams and under. Chew was later transported to DeKalb County Jail.

July 11

An unauthorized entry to Cole Hall was reported. A door handle was broken in order to gain entry. Nothing was missing from Cole Hall. This case is administratively closed pending leads or further information.

July 12

An individual at Northern View Apartments reportedly hit a former girlfriend. Robert L. Shaw, 33, of Cortland, was arrested for Domestic Battery and transported to DeKalb County Jail.

Wednesday

An individual with an outstanding warrant turned himself into NIU Police. Ryan O. Winston, 22, posted $300 cash bond. The case has been cleared due to an adult arrest.

An individual with an outstanding warrant turned himself into NIU Police. Austin M. Saunders, 19, of Homewood, posted $300 cash bond. The case has been closed due to an adult arrest.

Thursday

The theft of a radio from a locker room at Yordon Center was reported. The case is closed pending the discovery of new information.

A woman reported someone had used her bank account without her consent. The case is administratively closed.

A battery was reported between two individuals in NIU Lot W. The case is cleared due to refusal to cooperate and was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
