DeKALB | Race car entertainment is now available for fans of fast moving vehicles.

The Sycamore Speedway, 50W086 Route 64, opened for the season Saturday.

Tiffany Gerace, the speedway’s spokesperson, said the speedway has much to offer.

“We have a variety of entertainment for all ages,” Gerace said.

According to the Sycamore Speedway website drag races, stock car races and demolition derbies are just some forms of car versus car action.

Shows start at 8 p.m. every Saturday.

The night demolition derbies are always popular, Gerace said.

“We usually have a wide audience for the demolition events,” Gerace said. “More people attend this event than any other.”

Brian Daniel, senior operations management major, said he enjoyed the demolition derbies.

“I had a good time going to the demolition derbies,” Daniel said. “I’m not a hardcore racing fan, but I’d stop by if something cool is happening.”

Gerace said racers are able to register their cars at the speedway, and if they beat a time trial, they are able to race.

The areas of entry include super late models, late models, spectator, powerpuff and compact.

Gerace said to check the weather before leaving for the race.

If conditions are poor or tracks are wet, the race may get canceled.

James Craig, NIU student, said the race track sounds like an interesting place to go.

“Chances are I’ll be dragged there by my girlfriend because she’s a race car fan,” he said.
