DeKALB | A woman from Matteson, Ill. was charged with resisting a peace officer during a fight on Greenbrier Road Sunday.

Lekeshia Martin, 29, was charged with two counts of battery and one count of criminal damage to property. According to reports, DeKalb Police responded to 929 Greenbrier Road for a report of a fight between several females at 2:29 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, the officer on the scene witnessed Martin and another woman in a physical altercation. The officer separated the two women with the help of two men who were nearby.

The report stated one of the men was scratched across the face and bitten on a finger by Martin. Martin then grabbed a wine bottle from another woman and smashed out the back window of a nearby Pontiac Bonneville. The officer used his pepper spray on Martin, who then used the bottle to smash the windshield of the vehicle.

According to the report, Martin spun around on the officer in an “aggressive stance” holding the broken bottle in her hand. The officer used his taser on Martin, who fell to the ground. Martin attempted to get up, indicating she still wanted to fight, at which point the officer used his taser on Martin a second time to subdue her.

The report stated that Martin was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, where she continued to be combative with hospital staff and officers, causing her to be physically restrained and sedated.

Martin is scheduled to appear in court on June 3, said DeKalb Police Sgt. Robert Redel.
