DeKALB | A motorcycle accident occurred in front of Neptune Hall around 1:55 p.m. Tuesday.
The motorcyclist was heading west on Lucinda, when he saw a driver, Chris Woeppel, across the intersection inch forward off of Russel Road.
DeKalb Police Lt. Carl Leoni said police assumed the motorcyclist thought the driver was going to attempt a left turn. The driver was stationary. The motorcycle driver attempted to stop but skid on the gravel and hit the car.
“The motorcyclist locked up, hit gravel and lost control,” Leoni said. “He fell off of the bike, then his body hit the car.”
Woeppel said he stopped at the intersection, but didn’t see the motorcyclist.
“He went in front of my car when attempting to stop and dropped the bike,” Woeppel said. “The bike kept going, but he hit my car.”
Woeppel said he wishes the best for the motorcycle driver.
“I feel bad, and I hope he’s all right,” he said.
Jill Bieler, senior family and child studies major, said she heard the sirens and investigated from her window.
“I went out onto my balcony, and a guy down at the corner said someone on a motorcycle was hit,” Bieler said.
DeKalb Fire Chief Bruce Harrison said the motorcyclist was transported to the Kishwaukee hospital with no life threatening injuries.
