DeKALB | A parents group on campus will be celebrating Mother’s Day together.

“I hope to relax and spend time with my kids for mother’s day,” said Sequoia Thomas, sophomore psychology major and member of an organization called College Parents’ Group.

Thomas plans to cook something at home if she doesn’t go out to dinner with her organization.

CPG is “an organization designed to get student parents together,” said Kenyetta Watkins, junior pre nursing major. Watkins has been the president of CPG for two years.

She said the organization is about bonding, helping each other out academically and supporting one another. This year for Mother’s Day, CPG plans on celebrating together.

“We may all go out to Applebees,” Watkins said.

Being local for some of the mothers is more convenient which is why they are going to celebrate together, Watkins said.

“I usually go out with my mom and grandmother but this year I’m going out with the organization,” Watkins said.

She said the organization is like a family.

Corean Davis, junior business major, said she didn’t know much about family housing until she joined CPG.

“CPG has been a support system to me and has helped me with academics and organization skills,” said.
