DeKALB | David Jacobson was elected alderman of Ward 1 Tuesday.

Jacobson received 134 votes, 77 percent of the total vote. Bertrand Simpson received 39 votes, 23 percent of the vote.

“I’m elated,” Jacobson said. “I’m honored to represent the residents of the first ward…and humbled by their decision to elect me.”

Jacobson said he was honored to have the support from the Greek community and is looking forward to a brighter future for both the city and the ward.

The next step is to meet with the other candidates and see exactly where they are at what they want to do, Jacobson said.

“I’d very much like to push forward the change I ran my platform on.”

Simpson said he was fine with the results.

“I think the people have spoken, this is a representative democracy and the people get to vote,” Simpson said.

Simpson said he does not have any other political aspirations.

“I intend to live in DeKalb and be a useful citizen,” Simpson said.
