The Rant: Heat pass on butterball big man Curry for good reason

By Jimmy Johnson

The Miami Heat told Eddy Curry what the former Chicago Bulls center couldn’t say to all those cheeseburgers he’s devoured: no.

After seven workouts, Heat president Pat Riley passed on adding the butterball big man to the playoff roster.

Seven workouts? I’m surprised Curry could make it through one tryout carrying his 350-pound potbellied physique up and down the court.

The paths Curry and his former team have taken since he was shipped to the New York Knicks for just-as-chunky Michael Sweetney and other bleak incoming parts in the fall of 2005 really put things in perspective.

But the Bulls and Curry do have one thing in common: They’re both rising in their own regards.

The Bulls’ odds of winning the Eastern Conference and Curry’s cholesterol are skyrocketing by the minute.

This has to be a wake-up call for the Thornwood High School graduate to make some lifestyle changes.

It’s time for Curry to pick up some weights and not everything that’s on the dollar menu.
