Butler to issue public statement

NIU linebacker Devon Butler will issue a statement at 3:30 p.m. today in the Yordon Center. It will be his first public appearance since he was wounded in a shooting on April 5.

According to a Thursday night release from NIU Athletic Media Relations, Butler will make a statement and answer some questions with football head coach Dave Doeren.

The release noted strongly that this press conference will be the only time this semester the media will be able to contact Butler.

On April 5, former NIU students Mark Orozco and Richard Van Arsdale III allegedly fired several shots into Apt. 3 of 1009 Aspen Court. Butler, who was inside the apartment, was hit in the back. Both Orozco and Van Arsdale have been charged with attempted murder, among other charges.
