This year’s Tugs championship match will be a rematch from last year, featuring the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity against the combined team of the Sigma Alpha Mu and Phi Kappa Psi fraternities.

Phi Sigma Kappa won the match last year.

Jeremy Sanchez, vice president of Community Events for Interfraternity Council, said between 700-800 people came to watch the three matches on Thursday.

The championship match will work the same as a regular match. In order to win, a team must take two of the three ropes. Sanchez said teams generally switch out players between the first two ropes. Each team gets nine players and for the first rope and third rope their collective weight has to average no more than 195 pounds. The second rope must average 190 pounds.

The first two ropes are time limited to 20 minutes, Sanchez said. A team wins by pulling the knot in the middle of the rope onto their side. The third rope is unlimited time.

The match starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the East side of Huskie Stadium and costs $10 to view.
