The Rant: The best around

By Jimmy Johnson

I won’t throw down some wallops on the drum for Derrick Rose to be the NBA’s MVP, since it’s a forgone conclusion he’s had the award wrapped up for months.

But Rose shouldn’t be the only Chicago Bull to take home some hardware for this season.

In his first year as head coach, Tom Thibodeau has done work, and lots of it, to be named the NBA’s Coach of the Year.

Thibs took a Bulls team with an overhauled roster and blended the newbies with existing talent in Rose, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng and Taj Gibson.

The Bulls have absorbed Thibodeau’s defensive minded mentality and are the unheralded favorite to take the East and make their seventh appearance in the NBA Finals.

Many critics are soliciting votes for Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doug Collins for his efforts of yanking the talent out of his team for over 40 wins.

Hmmm…an Eastern Conference juggernaut with 60 wins or a lower seeded middle of the road troupe?

Sounds like a no-brainer to me.
