Chuck Stowe: Candidate for Sycamore 2nd Ward Alderman (incumbent)

Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology, Northern Illinois University

Experience: With the exception of one two-year term, Chuck Stowe has been the 2nd Ward alderman since 1987.

Why he is running: “I want to keep an eye on the expansion of the court house and the parking issues on Exchange Street. Also I was concerned about the challenges facing the economy, and I want to be there to help.”

Role of an alderman: “I think we have a very dedicated group. We may have disagreements on the floor, but I think everything is working for the best interest of the city. Making decisions and making sure I get to the people and what I’m doing benefits them.”

Biggest issue: “Watching the budget. Making sure we can provide the services and to not raise taxes.”

Anthony Cvek: Candidate for Sycamore 2nd Ward Alderman (challenger)

Education: Associate’s degree in political science, College of DuPage

Why he is running: “Outside box thinking is needed for today’s economy. [Constituents are] worried about their jobs and the possibility of losing their homes, or seeing a poor real estate market devalue it. I think it’s important to have an evolution of views and ideas, you give better service by getting fresh ideas.”

Role of an alderman: “The primary concern would be job opportunities and managing the city’s budget and cutting spending, getting people more jobs and improving the real estate values.”

Biggest issue: “Building a consensus. It’s a key trait that must be present.”
