Overnight at the museum: natural history museum to host family event

By Meaghen Harms

The Midwest Museum of Natural History, 425 W. State St., will have a night of adventure and learning for people of all ages.

The museum will host “Family Overnight at the Museum” on Saturday and Sunday. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.

“This is a unique opportunity for people to get a different look at the museum and to be saturated in it,” said Molly Holman, executive director of the museum.

A dinner and continental breakfast will be provided. Events throughout the night include a scavenger hunt through the museum, a behind the scenes tour, a lesson about nocturnal animals and a flashlight tour focusing on animal legends.

Animals of Native American and African origin will be focused on to coincide with the museum’s current display.

“People have been asking if the museum does anything like this since the movie ‘Night at the Museum’ came out,” Holman said.

Holman has experienced hosting events such as this at other museums.

“The museum has done a similar event once since I have been here, but it was a private event as a special request,” Holman said.
