DYFL Moving to a New Football Conference
The DeKalb Youth Football League (DYFL Bengals) recently joined the new Midwest Youth “Big 12” Football Conference. MYFC was founded by key members of all current participating leagues: DeKalb Youth Football League (Bengals), Yorkville Youth Tackle Football (Foxes), Kaneland Youth Football League (Knights), and Burlington Youth Football League (Panthers). MYFC is a partnership where each league has an equal voice. Michael Albert current DYFL President and Jamie MacDonald current DYFL Board Member were instrumental in getting the new conference off the ground and all hold Executive positions within MYFC. “We are excited to start the 2011 season as members of the MYFC,” Camyle Tate, DYFL League Rep.
The MYFC’s mission is to provide playing opportunities for the youth of the greater North West Illinois Region and to enhance the junior high middle school and high school football programs. Playing games against the same opponents as the North Central Junior Conference (NCJC), Big 12, & Big Northern IHSA School Districts will build and strengthen relationships and produce a healthy rivalry. This rivalry, which already exists at higher levels, will instill a sense of pride for the community at a much younger age. Athletes will experience a greater appreciation for and understanding of the surrounding communities and individual organizations involved as a whole. MYFC will promote leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline.
DYFL started its inaugural season as a probationary member of the Northern Illinois Football Conference (NIFC). Although DYFL experienced some growing pains during the first year the League as a whole performed outstanding. Three teams made the playoffs and of those teams 2 won championship titles and the other team took third place.
DYFL also attended and hosted end of the season tournaments. DYFL hosted its 1st Annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Youth Football Tournament “JDRF” where 2 teams placed second. DYFL had an opportunity to take athletes to Owensboro, Kentucky to participate in the 26th Annual King of the Hill Youth Football Tournament where 3 of the 4 teams took third place.
With the support of the new conference and the addition of new board members Mary Hess, Billy Roach, Michelle Clayton, and Anthony Mc Elroy – DYFL is confident that they will continue to make a difference in the lives of children in DeKalb County and are ready to get the 2011 season started. “The key focus this year will be to find a first class coaching staff and to continue to strive for excellence in competitive youth football.” Jerry Wright, DYFL VP.
