William D. McDermott obituary

William D. McDermott, 24, of DeKalb, Ill., died Friday, March 4, 2011, at home.

Born Dec. 23, 1986, in Arlington Heights, the son of Patrick Edward and Cheryl Jolene (Clark) McDermott, he married Lydia Roy on Aug. 8, 2008, in Kildeer.

He was a 2005 graduate of Mundelein High School and a 2009 graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a grade-point average of 4.0. He was employed as a police officer by the NIU Police Department. He was a wrestler at his high school and NIU. He enjoyed motorcycles and his two husky dogs, Charlie and Jovie. He loved the out of doors.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia; his parents, Patrick and Cheryl McDermott of Mundelein; a sister, Lori; a brother, Steven; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at First Lutheran Church, 324 N. Third St., DeKalb, with the Rev. Roy Nelson and Dr. Steven Roy officiating. Private family burial will be held Wednesday at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, Libertyville. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Church.
