Head-on collision occurs on Route 64

Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on state Route 64 Wednesday afternoon.
Nicholas A. Skrede, 25, of Sycamore, allegedly drove into the opposite lane when he hit an oncoming car. His vehicle was found in the north ditch facing south.
Skrede was extricated from his vehicle by Malta, DeKalb and Sycamore fire departments and then flown to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford by a Lifeline helicopter.
The other driver involved, Sharon R. Carter, 54, of Rockford, was traveling with a passenger who is a minor. Her vehicle was found on Route 64 facing north. Carter was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital by a React Helicopter after being extricated by the Malta, DeKalb and Sycamore fire departments.
The passenger was transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb by ambulance.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the accident and charges are pending against Skrede.
