DeKalb city crime blotter for Feb. 28

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • At 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, DeKalb Police responded to a report of someone being jumped in the 800 block of Greenbrier Road. After talking with the victims, police located and confirmed suspects, Hamza M. Rashid, 21, of Romeoville, and Garrett L. James, 22, of DeKalb. Rashid and James were arrested and charged with battery. They were later released on bond.
  • At 10:51 p.m. on Saturday, DeKalb Police ran the plates of a vehicle in the 800 block of West Hillcrest Drive. Police learned the vehicle’s registration was suspended. Police stopped the vehicle and learned the driver, Arturo Fernandez, 20, of DeKalb, had no insurance and was driving with a suspended license. Fernandez was arrested and taken to the police station. He was later released on bond.
