DeKALB | February is Black History Month. NIU is hosting several events and attractions to celebrate the history and culture of African Americans.

All students are welcome to join the festivities that the campus organizations have created.

WHAT: Century of Leadership Program

WHEN: Wednesday at 7 p.m.

WHERE: Stevenson Smart Classroom

COST: Free

WHY: Join the men of Alpha Phi Alpha in celebrating the contributions they have made to the community and what they have done to enhanced it. Based off of the PBS film documentary.

WHAT: A Tribute to Black Women

WHEN: Thursday at 7 p.m.   

WHERE: Duke Ellington Ballroom

COST: Free

WHY: Join the BROTHERS in this formal awards ceremony paying tribute to the African American women of excellence on NIU’s campus.

WHAT: Black History Month Social

WHEN: Friday at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Stevenson, New Orleans Room

COST: Free

WHY: Join the BROTHERS for their celebration for Black History Month. Students will be accommodated with food, drinks and games.

WHAT: Afrocentric Fashion show

WHEN: Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.

WHERE: Duke Ellington Ballroom

COST: $5

WHY: Come see Present Perfect Modeling Organization’s fashion show. They will be modeling ethnic clothing with a “perfect” twist.

WHAT: Jazz Poetry Set

WHEN: Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.

WHERE: Neptune Central

COST: Free

WHY: Come join the men of Kappa Alpha Psi in a smooth poetry setting to listen to students showcase their lyrical talents.
