DeKALB | The drug sting executed by DeKalb Police on Friday ended with three arrests and was met with little resistance, said DeKalb Police.

The first arrest was made at a hotel in the 1100 block of West Lincoln Highway, where police on surveillance caught an individual, Craig L. Brock, 23, of Round Lake, in the process of a heroin delivery, said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler.

According to a DeKalb Police press release, Brock was arrested as he tried to enter a hotel room used by drug dealers. Police later found three guns, heroin and cocaine in the hotel room.

Spangler said three ounces of heroin were found.

“It was a good seizure,” Spangler said.

Spangler said the arrest was not met with resistance.

“An officer walked in and cuffed him,” Spangler said.

Spangler said Brock may have looked like he was going to run, but no resistance charges were made.

The investigation later led to a residence at 116 N Eighth St. where Deonte L. Johnson, 23, and Zara K. West, 20, were arrested as they attempted to leave the residence.

Both suspects were from the residence, according to the release.

“[Johnson] was known to us as a dealer that’s been moving quite a bit of heroin.” Spangler said.

Although Spangler said West and Johnson tried to lock the car doors as police approached, the arrest was also straightforward.

Police found stolen property at the residence and were able to link Johnson to the drugs and firearms found in the hotel, said DeKalb Police.

Brock was charged with one count of unlawful criminal drug conspiracy, a Class X felony, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, Class 1 felonies and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, Class X felonies, according to the release.

Johnson and West have each been charged with two counts of armed violence, Class X felonies, unlawful criminal drug conspiracy, a Class X felony, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, Class X felonies, two counts of unlawful possession of a stole firearm, a Class 2 felony and unlawful possession of a stolen firearm, a Class 2 felony, according to the release.

Additionally, the release stated Johnson has been charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon, Class 3 felonies and West is also charged with three Class A misdemeanors of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Johnson was one of the bigger dealers, Spangler said.

Spangler said he hopes the arrests will curtail some of the heroin activity going on around DeKalb.
