Fire alarm causes Founders Memorial Library to be evacuated

DeKALB | The Founders Memorial Library had to evacuate Thursday afternoon due to the fire alarm being sounded.

The alarm went off around 11:30 a.m. and the evacuation went smoothly, said Byron Anderson, associate dean for Public Services.

“People were quite cooperative on this,” Anderson said. “There were no problems.”

Students and faculty remained outside for about 45 minutes to an hour until the fire department could identify the cause of the alarm. There was no evidence of a fire in the building, Anderson said.

“We understand someone pulled the alarm lever,” Anderson said.

The concern of the alarm is the cost, Anderson said. He estimated the cost for one fire truck to arrive to an incident is $500 along with the costs of faculty having to stop work for the hour.
