DeKalb County Treasurer Christine J. Johnson has been appointed to Illinois State Sen. Brad Burzynski’s vacant seat.

According to a press release from the DeKalb County Republican Party, Johnson was unanimously selected to serve out the remaining two years of Burzynski’s term in the 35th Senate District.

Burzynski sent in his letter of resignation on Jan. 24 stating he was leaving for personal reasons. Burzynski represented the 35th Senate District since 1993.

“Christine has pledged to follow Senator Burzynski’s example of strong fiscal leadership in Springfield and expedient, effective constituent service back home,” said Mary Simons, chairwoman of the DeKalb County Republican Party, in the press release. “We look forward to working with her to reform Illinois’ broken government.”
